Description
Steamboats played a major role in the 19th-century development of the United States by allowing the practical large-scale transport of passengers and freight up and down the rivers of the new country. Using steam power, the riverboats were developed during that time which could navigate in shallow waters as well as upriver against strong currents. However, after the development of the railroads, passenger traffic gradually switched to this faster form of transportation, but steamboats continued to serve commerce on the Mississippi River, and some of its tributaries, into the 20th-century and are still being used for tourists excursions today. Have you tried one? They're full of fun, food, and great live music for listening and dancing! All the way down to New Orleans.
